There are several options of print types for Jim Booth prints. From Limited Edition prints on paper and canvas to Classic Edition reproductions and Mini Cards, there are options for everyone from collectors to decorators.
LIMITED EDITION PRINTS - Collector prints on paper or canvas which will increase in value over time (once sold out). These collector prints include the regular S/N (signed and numbered) prints, A/P (artist proof) prints, and ENV (environmental edition prints). Jim's edition size has varied over the years from 450 prints to 2000 prints.
PAPER PRINTS: are produced on acid free paper using a full color lithograph press.
CANVAS PRINTS: As of Jim's retirement in May 2018 canvas prints are currently not being produced. The information below is accurate for the canvas prints we once offered.
Our canvas prints are printed on the same canvas that Jim uses to paint which makes them very realistic when compared to his original paintings. The entire edition is first numbered to paper then as a canvas is requested Jim tears up a paper print & signs that number to canvas - this way even after the entire edition is sold out you can upgrade to canvas - as long as the canvas prints are still available & you have a numbered paper print to trade-in. Jim does not create new/more numbers for canvas prints or sell them un-numbered...the canvas prints are part of the original Limited Edition.
NOTE: To purchase canvas prints for sold out images you must "trade-in" an number paper print. The paper print is destroyed & Jim signs that print number to the new canvas print. The paper print must be destroyed so that two prints of the same number do not exist. Canvas prints are not sold unnumbered. We will credit you the original issue price of the paper print towards the cost of the canvas upgrade. If the paper print is framed in our current "house" framing, with no damage, we can credit you the cost of the framing as well!
SIGNED & NUMBERED PRINT (S/N) - This is the main edition of prints.
--In the image the prints will be signed and dated. The signature & date in the image are painted on the original and copied to every print AND poster. The important information is in the 1" of white margin under the image.
--On the left in PENCIL is the number (ex 550/2000), in the center printed in black ink is the "title" & "by Jim Booth", and on the right in PENCIL is Jim's hand signature. There are a few of the older smaller prints where Jim signed & numbered the prints in the image. These include: Basket Weaver, Daddy's Girl, Island Light, Marsh Creek, Morris Light, Pink House, Sunrise Surf, & Sunset Marsh.
--If the white margin is matted over you likely have a poster. Since the image of both the prints & poster are identical you will have to unframe the picture and look at the white margin to know which you own. On rare occasions we have had customers bring in Signed & Numbered Prints that had all the white margin matted over!
ARTIST PROOF PRINT (A/P) - Artist Proofs are the same as Signed & Numbered Prints except for the edition size is smaller & directly to the right of the number will be an embossed stamp that says "ARTIST PROOF". A/Ps are valued at 1 1/2 times that of a S/N print. If a S/N print is listed at $1000 the A/Ps insurance value is $1500
ENVIRONMENTAL EDITION PRINT (ENV) - ENVs are a special edition that are not for retail sale. Jim donates this entire edition to various non-profit organizations for auctions, raffles, etc. These prints have an embossed gold seal in the image of the picture. The ENVs are more valuable than the prints in any of the other editions since there are fewer of them & they can not be purchased on a daily basis. ENVs are the same as S/N Prints except for the edition size is smaller & there will be an embossed gold seal that says "Jim Booth, Environment, Artist". ENVs are valued at 1 1/2 times that of a S/N print. If a S/N print is listed at $1000 the ENV's insurance value is $1500
Classic Edition Poster- Classic Edition posters are produced for the more popular images after all the Limited Edition Prints sell out (only exception is Running The Wind which has both available at once). These posters are printed on the same quality paper & full color lithograph press as the Limited Edition Prints. Since these posters are unlimited they do not increase in value.
**NOTE - As of Jim's retirement in May 2018 our Classic Edition Posters are no longer hand signed. We plan on offering limited signings each year where you can request Jim to sign and/or dedicate his work. Sign up for our Newsletter in the Contact Us section of our website or follow us on social media to receive notifications of these special signings.
-In the image the prints will be signed and dated. The signature & date in the image are painted on the original painting and copied to every Limited Edition Print and Classic Edition Poster. This signature is NOT Jim's real signature!! ALL the important information is in the 1" of white margin under the image:
-Printed on the left in black ink is "Classic Edition", in the center printed in black ink is the "title", and printed on the right in black ink is "By Jim Booth". Jim's hand signature, always in black ink, may or may not be next to the printed "by Jim Booth.
-If the white margin is matted over you likely have a Classic Edition Poster not a Limited Edition Print. Since the image of both the prints & poster are identical you will have to unframe the picture and look at the white margin to know which you own. On rare occasions we have had customers bring in Limited Edition Prints that had all the white margin matted over!!
--The large size Classic Edition Posters will have poster style writing that includes the "Title" & "Jim Booth" (Left). Once Framed & Matted they look just like the image on the right (still shows the title, Classic Edition, & by Jim Booth)
--"The Storm", "Storm Warnings", & "Atlantic House" had early poster print runs that did not have the words "Classic Edition" and/or the title printed in the white margin. Some also had a faux marble boarder printed on the poster's paper. The later runs match the poster descriptions given above.
